Lavender Sheep Sonya 🐑

A charming lavender sheep that combines a soft toy and a cozy decorative mat. The voluminous “fleece” is formed with elongated plush loops, while the beige face, ears and hooves create a pleasant contrast. Large appliqué eyes and a simply embroidered smile give the character a good-natured expression. The silhouette reads well, however loop lengths are uneven in places, the body contours are slightly irregular, and the placement of the legs could be made more symmetrical. The piece is warm and full of character; the combination of lilac and cream tones works particularly well.

The main body is crocheted from bulky plush yarn. The body was likely worked in the round from a central point with even increases forming an oval silhouette. To imitate sheep’s wool, a pattern of elongated loops was used: the working yarn is pulled out to a set length, secured with a single crochet, and the loop remains on the right side. A dense base holds the pile, although to achieve a neater surface the loop length should be controlled more consistently. The head is made separately in single crochet worked in a spiral. Volume is created by successive increases, a straight section and decreases, after which the piece is stuffed with polyfill. Ears and legs are also formed by working in the round with color changes between the lavender and beige yarns. Parts are sewn to the body with invisible stitches. The eyes are appliquéd from white and black felt, and the mouth and nose are embroidered with black thread using simple straight stitches. This combination of crochet, appliqué and embroidery conveys the character well. For a professional finish it helps to even the body contours, mark limb attachment points symmetrically and securely hide yarn ends inside the dense fabric.

Hand wash gently at up to 30 °C with a liquid detergent for delicate fabrics. Do not soak for a long time, do not rub the elongated loops and do not use bleach. After washing, gently press the item between towels without wringing, reshape the body, face and legs. Dry flat away from radiators and direct sunlight. Machine drying and ironing are contraindicated: high heat can deform plush polyester. After drying, gently restore the texture with your fingers. Periodically check that the eyes and embroidery are securely attached.
