Lilac Cradle 💜

The lilac set for a baby includes a smooth raglan pullover, a lacy romper, a dressy bonnet and a pair of tiny booties. A single shade ties the pieces together attractively, and the combination of stockinette, garter-stitch edges and pronounced lace creates a gentle, cohesive look. Stitches are mostly even, raglan lines are neat, and edges appear cleanly finished. Repeating lace motifs are especially successful. The pullover is most likely worked top-down in raglan construction without complicated seaming: after a ribbed neckline the stitches are divided for front, back and sleeves, with increases made along the four raglan lines. The main body is worked in stockinette stitch. Sleeves finish with narrow garter-stitch edgings or with several rows of reverse-stockinette that form a soft decorative roll. The romper is knit in a lace pattern with vertically oriented repeats. The motif is formed by a sequence of yarn-overs and decreases worked together leaning right and left. To maintain stitch count, the decreases must precisely balance the yarn-overs. The lower part is finished with a garter border and shaped leg openings; a knitted cord threaded through eyelets or a casing is provided at the waist. This construction requires careful alignment of the lace repeats at the center. The bonnet repeats the set’s lace theme: the lower edge is formed by a firm 1×1 rib, above which sits a fan or leaf motif, and the crown is closed by successive decreases. The booties are made with a garter-stitched sole, a shaped toe and a cuff; ties are made as an i-cord or a narrow knitted strip. After knitting the pieces are neatly joined with mattress or mattress/stockinette seams and ends are woven in. Gentle wet-blocking to shape the lace is necessary, taking care not to stretch the ribbing or neckline.

Hand wash recommended at 30 °C in cool water with a wool or delicate baby detergent. Do not soak for long, do not rub the lace and do not wring. After rinsing gently press out water between towels. Dry each item flat, shaped to measurements, on a horizontal surface; do not use a tumble dryer, radiator or direct sunlight. If needed, steam from the wrong side through a damp cloth without pressing the iron into the texture. Store folded, not on a hanger. Before use check the security of knitted cords and do not leave a baby unattended in items with ties.
