Peacock Fan 🦚

A striking lace shawl in a deep dark blue with large “peacock” motifs — a piece with character and genuine openwork architecture. The pattern reads richly: a combination of yarn-over lanes and decreases forms elegant “feathers,” and the scalloped edge adds dressiness. It’s clear the work is fine and time-consuming, but the fabric lacks a final wet/heat finishing: the center is gathered in folds, so the lace hasn’t fully opened and the edging appears less even than it could be.
Knitting method and techniques
Knitting: lace shawl worked from an openwork chart with yarn-overs and decreases, followed by blocking
Materials
- Fine yarn lace / thin fingering (guideline 600–800 m / 100 g), dark blue: ~150–200 g
- Circular needles 2.5–3.5 mm (to match gauge), cable 80–120 cm
- Stitch markers, row counter
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Delicate wash suitable for wool/silk
- Pins, blocking wires/cable (recommended) and a blocking mat
Care instructions
Hand wash in cool water 20–30°C with a delicate-wash product. Do not rub or wring — only gentle soaking for 10–15 minutes and light pressing through a towel. Dry strictly flat, on a surface; if needed, block into shape, forming the scalloped edge. Do not dry on a heater or hang (the lace will stretch). Ironing is not recommended: light steam at a distance through a pressing cloth / steaming is acceptable, but a repeat wet blocking is preferable. Store folded in a bag, avoid snags.
