Autumn Schoolgirls 🍂

A charming duet of doll outfits turns the characters into little fashionistas. The first set pairs a powder-pink dress with lavender lace collar and pinafore; a shaped edging adds a soft romantic accent. The second relies on a striking contrast of turquoise and white: puffed sleeves, a detached collar and a light pinafore create the image of a young pupil. Stitches look even, the fit is neat, and the little handbags, bows, socks and a miniature book convincingly complete the composition. Slight looseness in some lace sections is noticeable, but does not spoil the overall impression.

Both doll sets are worked mainly with knitting needles using fine yarn. Main panels are knitted in stockinette stitch either in the round or in flat rows with subsequent neat joining of pieces. Waist shaping, armholes and necklines are made with increases and decreases adapted to the dolls' miniature proportions. The turquoise dress features puffed sleeves with a gathered cap: extra fullness is created with increases, then reduced at the cuff. The powder-pink dress is finished with a lavender pinafore having vertical lace lanes. The pattern is formed by a combination of yarn overs and stitches worked together; the lower edge is finished with a garter or textured edging with soft scallops. The collar is knitted as a separate piece in a lace repeat and attached along the neckline. The full skirt is formed by even increases, and the wavy hem is achieved by alternating lace elements and denser rows. The white pinafore of the second outfit is worked in stockinette with a narrow lace band at the waist and along the lower edge. The detached collar is made as two symmetrical halves and edged for stability. The composition shows a competent mix of solid and lace textures. After assembly the garments were likely given gentle wet-heat finishing; however, additional blocking of the collars would help even out points, open the lace eyelets and make the symmetry more precise.

Remove all handbags, brooches, the book and other accessories from the dolls. Wash sets separately by hand in cool water up to 30 °C with a mild wool or delicate fabric detergent. Do not soak for long, do not rub or wring to avoid stretching the miniature pieces. After rinsing, gently blot with a towel, shape and dry flat away from radiators and direct sunlight. Pin lace collars and pinafores along the outline until completely dry. Do not use bleach or tumble drying. If needed, steam from the wrong side through a damp cloth without pressing the iron onto the fabric.
