Pink Marshmallow 🎀

An airy set in the color of pink marshmallow turns a reborn doll into a little princess. The dress is knit in stockinette stitch and decorated with delicate lace eyelets, soft shoulder wings and a wide flared ruffle. The look is completed by knitted pantaloons and booties with long ties. The fabric appears even, clean and well-shaped, although final finishing and symmetry would be easier to assess from close-ups and a rear view. White bows and a small toy bear create a gentle, cohesive image.

The set is predominantly worked on knitting needles from fine baby yarn. The main fabric of the dress is knit in stockinette: knit stitches on the right-side rows, purl stitches on the wrong-side rows. The bodice is shaped to the doll's measurements with gradual increases or distribution of stitches across the chest line. Small lace elements are achieved by alternating yarn-overs and stitches worked together; they both ornament the fabric and help retain its density. The shoulder wings are worked as separate widening sections or picked up along the armhole edge. Their volume is created with frequent increases, after which the edge is bound off loosely without drawing in. The skirt is separated from the bodice by a row of increases and is worked with even widening. The lower ruffle is formed by additional stitch increases; a narrow selvedge helps the fabric keep a neat wave. The pantaloons are knit in the round or as two pieces with a mattress stitch seam afterwards. The waistband and leg openings are worked in ribbing for an elastic fit. The booties start from the sole, then the side walls are built up and the toe is shaped with decreases. The ties resemble an i-cord, a crocheted chain or a cord made with a crochet hook. After assembly the garment was likely given a wet-heat blocking, which opened the stitches and allowed the ruffles to lie fairly evenly.

Delicate hand wash recommended at 30 °C in cool water with a wool or baby-laundry detergent. Do not soak for long, do not rub or wring. After rinsing, gently blot the set with a towel, arrange the ruffles, ties and lace areas. Dry flat away from radiators and direct sunlight. Do not use bleach or a tumble dryer. If needed, steam from the wrong side through a damp cloth, without pressing the iron onto the fabric. Store laid flat; periodically check bows and cords for security.
